Bulls and Horses Entry

We start the route in the Plaza del Ángel, where at the beginning of the wall you will find the first explanatory panel.

“The ascent of the cattle along the Rialé road is a kind of prelude to the “Entrance”. This ascent is silently witnessed by hundreds of people stationed on the sides of the road, despite the fact that on said climb the herd is not supported by any horse rider.”

After the steps of the herd that travel the entire wall we arrive at the second panel located in the Plaza de los Mesones.

“At two o’clock, with the roar of the carcass, the “Entry” begins on Argén Street. It is in the Plaza de los Mesones where the riders and horses skillfully and audaciously collect the bulls in a scene known as “the meeting”, to then begin the race in perfect harmony.”

Continuing down Colón Street and contemplating the different buildings that make it up, we find the third panel located on the main street where the famous race is held.

“The multitudinous and popular “Entrance of Bulls and Horses” of Segorbe runs along a route of about 500m. and lasts approximately one minute. It mainly runs along Calle Colón, occupied by a large mass of public that opens and closes to the intrepid passage of bulls and horsemen, forming a corridor and barrier at the same time.

A little further ahead we find the Monument at the entrance of bulls and horses, erected in the Plaza Obispo Ahedo, the work of the prestigious sculptor Manuel Rodríguez Vázquez in 1981.

More important dates surround the Entry of Bulls and Horses, since in 2005 it was declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest.

At the end of Colón Street we can already see the square where the Entrance ends and where they set up a peculiar bullring. At the end of the Entry of Bulls and Horses, the cattle are kept in the corral “toril” and then the parade of the horsemen takes place.

“The public on the street, and those who have seen the “Entrance” from the different balconies and viewpoints, do not leave and joyfully await the rhythmic parade of the horsemen, now up Colón Street, to reward the perfection of the performance with their applause. “Entrada”, the admirable art of driving the cattle, their bravery and their mettle.

To understand and experience the festival almost in first person, it is a must to visit the Interpretation Center of the festival itself. Located in the same building as the tourist office. Open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (From June 15 to September 15 afternoons from 5 to 7 p.m.)

If your visit to Segorbe coincides with the celebration of the Bulls and Horses Entry (week of September 9) you will be able to contemplate, after this entire tour, the true sensation of seeing a unique show in the world.

From any point on Colón Street you can watch the race, if you prefer there are public boxes available for a small fee, or from the plaza itself where you can see how the bulls enter and later display the livestock for free.
